MyChef Terms of Service
Effective date: 2026-07-12 Last updated: 2026-07-12
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") are an agreement between you and MyChef ("MyChef", "we", "us", or "our"), operated by Jason Aaron Chumney, and govern your use of the MyChef mobile app and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
1. Who can use MyChef
You must be at least 13 years old to use MyChef. When you first open the app we ask for your date of birth, and accounts indicating an age under 13 are blocked. Where a higher minimum age applies by law in your region, that higher age applies. You are responsible for your account and for keeping access to your Apple/Google sign-in secure.
2. Your account
You sign in with Apple or Google; we don't store passwords. You agree to give us accurate information and to use the Service only for yourself and your household. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account (or by emailing us), which removes your personal data as described in the Privacy Policy.
3. Recipes and AI-generated content
MyChef uses AI to detect ingredients from your scans and to generate recipes, meal plans, and cooking guidance. AI output can be wrong. In particular:
- Check your food. Ingredient detection is a best-effort estimate — always confirm what you actually have, its freshness, and that it is safe to eat.
- Cook safely. Recipes, times, and temperatures are suggestions. You are responsible for safe food handling and for cooking food (especially meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs) to a safe temperature.
- Allergies and diets. We filter recipes using the allergies and preferences you enter, but we cannot guarantee any recipe is free of an allergen. If you have a serious allergy or medical dietary restriction, verify every ingredient yourself.
- Nutrition numbers are estimates. Calories, macros, and savings figures are approximate and for general information only.
- Not medical advice. Nothing in the Service is medical, health, or nutrition advice. Consult a professional before making decisions based on it.
4. Subscriptions and billing
Parts of the Service require a paid subscription (e.g. Pro or Master Chef), offered in monthly and annual options with any free-trial terms shown at purchase. Purchases are processed by Apple or Google:
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time in your App Store / Google Play subscription settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
- If you don't cancel a free trial before it ends, it converts to a paid subscription.
- Prices are shown in the app before you buy. Refunds are handled by Apple/Google under their policies.
- Plans include usage limits that reset monthly, weekly, or daily (e.g. scans, recipe generations, Chef questions) shown in the app; we may enforce these limits to keep the Service reliable.
5. Community content and conduct
Group chats let you share messages and recipes with other members. You keep ownership of what you post, and you grant us a non-exclusive license to host and display it as needed to run the Service. You agree to the community guidelines shown when you join:
- Be kind and respectful — no harassment or hate.
- Keep it about food, cooking, and healthy habits.
- No spam, ads, or self-promotion.
- Share recipes and tips — not personal or medical advice.
We may remove content or restrict accounts that break these rules or these Terms. Content posted by other users is theirs, not ours, and may not be reliable.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to: misuse, probe, or disrupt the Service; attempt to bypass usage limits, authentication, or safety measures; scrape or bulk-extract data; reverse engineer the app except where the law permits; use the Service to build a competing dataset; or upload content that is unlawful, infringing, or harmful.
7. MyChef's content and license to you
The app, its design, logos, and everything we provide (other than your content) belong to us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-commercial license to use the app on your devices. Recipes generated for you are yours to cook and share personally — not to resell as a dataset or service.
8. Third-party services
The Service depends on third-party providers (sign-in, database, AI processing, recipe and product databases, photos, purchases, notifications — listed in the Privacy Policy). Their availability is outside our control, and parts of the Service may be limited when they are down. App-store links and any external sites are governed by their own terms.
9. Termination
You can stop using MyChef or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access (with notice where practicable) if you materially breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Sections 3, 5–7, and 10–13 survive termination.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI output will be accurate or safe to rely on without your own judgment (see Section 3).
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, MyChef and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of US $50 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms, and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or the Service, are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
- Let's sort it out directly first. If you have a concern, please email us at [email protected] and give us 30 days to try to resolve it. Most issues can be handled quickly this way.
- Where disputes are heard. If we can't resolve it informally, you agree that any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Colorado, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. Either party may still bring an individual claim in small-claims court where it qualifies.
- Equitable relief. Nothing here prevents either party from seeking injunctive or other equitable relief in court to protect intellectual property or to stop misuse of the Service.
13. Changes and contact
We may update these Terms; if we make material changes we'll update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
